MATHEMATICS CLUB ACTIVITIES
Introduction
Maths clubs in
schools are dedicated extra-curricular maths get togethers that breathe new
life into maths beyond the classroom.
Maths club raise
the profile of maths as a subject, they increase engagement and show children
that maths can be playful, exciting and full of wonder. The activities is
useful in arousing and maintaining interest in mathematics. It provides
supplements to classroom teaching and also opportunity of free discussions among
students. It provide practical experience of the theory. The students will get
opportunity to pursue their mathematical hobbies.
Clubs organize
number of activities that could arose interest in children and avoid boredom in
the subject. It also plays important role in motivating the students to learn
mathematics with interest and involvement. It develops self-study in students.
Activity 1
Logical reasoning test
A logical reasoning
test was conducted on September 16, 2019 in GVHSS, Thrikkakara. This test was
designed to assess the student’s ability at skills such as how to interpret
patterns, number sequences, relation between shapes etc. It is to test the
students ability to make conclusion based on given pre-condition.
I conducted the
test for class 8 and 9. The time was 40 minutes to complete the test. The
highest score was gained by Pavithra of 9B.
Activity 2
Class on history of mathematics and famous mathematicians
The class was
conducted on October 24,2019 in GVHSS, Thrikkakara. Although the history of
mathematics has no place in curricula, it will develop insight into the entire
human knowledge. The students got awareness that mathematics is a man-made
science and was developed due to the human need.
I took the class for
9th standard and shown presentation of that and asked questions to
check their knowledge
Conclusion
The success of a
club depends upon the teacher, students and the activities they are selecting.
